This past week the Archery Trade Association held its annual show in Louisville, Kentucky. With the state of Kentucky living with a mask-free society, the show was welcome to the outdoor industry to finally start getting back to normal with face-to-face interaction.

It was great actually seeing folks — their entire face — so you know you are talking to; it was a major boost to all in attendance.

The industry has been waiting two years to get back to face to face and manufacturers have had several new innovations and improvements to products for all sportsmen/women who enjoy the outdoors.

America’s leading manufacturer of knives and tools for all things outdoors — Outdoor Edge — announced the new RazorCape, the latest addition to its trendsetting lineup of knives featuring the company’s patented RazorSafe blade-change system.

The RazorCape is a lightweight knife that features two replaceable, scalpel-sharp, 3-inch caping blades to perform the intricate task of caping an animal; two replaceable, scalpel-sharp, 3-inch drop point blades suited for the heavy lifting of field dressing and quartering your game; and a single 3-inch gutting blade to effortlessly cut beneath the hide without piercing internal organs, all made from Japanese 420J2 stainless steel and hand-finished to achieve their razor-sharp edges. The blades are seated in a black oxide-coated steel blade holder, providing the strength of a traditional knife. The handle is constructed from a lightweight, one-piece, non-slip Grivory polymer. The stainless-steel blades have a Rockwell-C Hardness (HRC) rating of 55-56, offering tremendous control and precision and better edge retention. The knife weighs just two ounces and has an overall length of 7.1 inches. Developed with the minimalist in mind this is a perfect multi blade combo for in-the-field gutting, skinning, and caping big game animals taken anywhere in the world.

Outdoor Edge’s award-winning, patented RazorSafe system allows you to change blades quickly, easily, and safely with the push of a button. New from New Archery Products-NAP-a line of broadheads, the Backflip series. The Backflip 2 caught my attention because it’s a one-piece ferrule for maximum accuracy and consistency in the field, with grade 5 titanium ferrule, CNC-machined from a single piece for ultimate durability, the Backflip 2 offers 11/16-inch flight diameter, which makes them fly like your field points, the .031 thick ultra-sharp replaceable razor-sharp stainless-steel blades, individually spin-tested for optimal down-range flight performance, practice blades included ultra-sharp replacement blades included and with a 1 3/4″ cutting diameter is a great fixed blade broadhead.

NAP introduced the Ignite 4 for expandable blade hunters.

The Ignite 4 offers a one-piece ferrule for maximum accuracy and consistency in the field, grade 5 Titanium ferrule CNC-machined from a single piece for ultimate durability, X-lock blade system ensures blade retention on impact, .031 thick ultra-sharp replaceable razor-sharp stainless-steel blades, individually spin-tested for optimal down-range flight performance, practice blades included ultra-sharp replacement blades included and with a 1 3/16″ cutting diameter.

Always looking for a safe way to store and carry my broadheads NAP introduces the Broadhead Case. The Broadhead Case offers durable ABS housing, aluminum carabiner, die cut foam to securely hold up to 6 broadheads, holds standard NAP broadhead wrench and is designed not to dull blades.

From the world of trail cameras, SKYPOINT had a huge display with the latest in the industry but there was one thing that I had heard rumors about that I just had to see first-hand, the LINK-S-DARK.

This camera is one that I started hearing about last spring but couldn’t confirm that it actually wasn’t a pie-in the-sky rumor. It was until I laid my hands on one, did I believe that SKYPOINT pulled it off.

The LINK-S-DARK all but eliminates every possible disruption to an area you want to scout, but don’t want to visit. Because it is a cellular camera, you can get photos without visiting the camera to pull a card. Because it is solar, you can keep getting images for months without replacing the batteries. Because of the Hybrid Illumination Technology flash system, you can reduce the IR flash to no glow, making it invisible to the deer you’re scouting. Just like you.

The LINK-S-Dark marries two of the most innovative features SKYPOINT has to offer, an onboard solar charging system and HIT flash system into one camera. For spots you want to scout, but not visit, the unique feature mix of the LSD lets you. The LINK-S-DARK uses an integrated solar panel and on-board lithium battery to stay powered for months on end, with the need to use or replace an AA power source. While all cellular cameras let you avoid visiting the camera for card pulls, the LSD offers the best, most reliable, most compact power solution to keep you informed on the area without visiting it to spook game or leave scent behind. The LINK-S-DARK also offers a 12MP, 0.07-second trigger speed and HIT flash system. The lighting fast 0.07-second, to ensure fewer photos taken by the camera are empty frames without game. Because of the fast trigger speed, the camera comes out of sleep mode and captures an oak sapling.

Over the decades, there has been no better,or well-known, name than Bear Archery. Bear has gone through the ups and downs in the archery industry and today is as good as they ever have been.

My first bow was a Bear recurve and when I moved to compound bow was a Bear. Bear has always built quality bows for the average hunter. This year Bear introduced several new bows and resurrected and made it better from the 60’s.

In the 1950s and 60s, Bear Archery produced the ALASKAN, a bow with performance the industry had never seen at an unbeatable value. For 2022, the ALASKAN returns with a spin. This technology and performance packed 32″ axle-to-axle bow comes equipped with an all-new DHC hybrid cam. The DHC hybrid cam system features a relaxed 80% let off without sacrificing Bear’s signature draw cycle smoothness. The ALASKAN was designed to deliver increased stability and class leading performance for the hardcore bowhunter. The new KillerWave in-limb dampeners assist in eliminating vibration and improving accuracy in each shot. The 2022 ALASKAN offers respectable arrow speeds up to 335 FPS and an incredible amount of adjustability in draw length from 25.5-31.”

All-new for 2022, the Resurgence RTH is a performance bargain with the all-new Bear Archery DHC 80% hybrid cam system. The all-new 2022 DHC hybrid cam system offers Bear’s signature smooth draw cycle with an 80% let-off. It also features a solid back wall to ensure consistency shot after shot. This lightweight 32” axle-to-axle bow offers class leading stability with a 6 1/4” brace height. The new KillerWave limb dampeners help eliminate vibration and improve accuracy in every shot. The Bear Archery Resurgence RTH offers blistering arrow speeds up to 335 feet per second; perfect for 3D archery and bowhunting. The Resurgence RTH offers an incredible level of adjustability and accommodates draw lengths from 25 1/2” to 31″ .

This bow is available as either a 45 lbs.- 60lbs. or 55lbs. – 70lbs. bow and comes ready-to-hunt with Trophy Ridge accessories. The Resurgence RTH comes equipped with a Trophy Ridge Joker 4-pin sight, 5-spot quiver, Blitz stabilizer, Whisker Biscuit V, peep sight, and D loop. Experience 2022’s most value packed and highly-adjustable bow weighing in at 3.9 pounds from Bear Archery.

Bear’s Redemption EKO hits the sweet spot at 31” axle-to-axle for ultimate maneuverability and supreme accuracy making it the perfect choice for any tree stand, hunting blind, or spot and stalk scenario. Our all-new Vibration Reduction System (VRS) helps stabilize and reduce lingering riser vibration by up to 25% from the motion of shooting an arrow allowing for a smooth and quiet shot. Powered by our patented EKO Cam System for ultimate adjustability, the Redemption EKO fires arrows at a blazing speed of 342 feet per second. This lightweight bow is only 4.1 lbs. and the 6.25″ brace height makes for the ultimate shooting experience. Located within the riser, the Align Lok level works in conjunction with any bow sight to aid in aligning second and third axis levels. The Redemption EKO ships with the VERSAGRIP for a smaller profile and reduction in torque and NAROGRIP to fit your hand precisely for a more accurate shot along with a limb stop to dial in your custom fit and feel. The VRS dampening system helps stabilize and reduce lingering riser vibration from the motion of shooting an arrow. Residual vibrations are up to 25% less, by using lightweight specifically designed components — the VRS dampening system simply takes out the ring.”

EKO Technology allows let-off customization to four different positions (75%, 80%, 85%, or 90%).

Over the next few weeks, I will share more new products that were introduced at the 2022 ATA Show.
